Meetings All Day Long

I seem to be attending meetings upon meetings, spending time discussing what to do, but at the end, we hardly spent time doing the work. Just talk, no action. After all, action speaks louder than words, right?

I had four meetings to go to today, but went to only two (the others i sent my sidekicks to do the honours.)

Notice that in this meeting they only dish out mineral water only. No food, or tidbits, nor coffee or tea. Yet we kill a few trees while at it...

I forgot to mention, while I was walking about in the server room, I came across an interesting group of blue-coloured structured cabling. It's funny how it resembles the arteries and veins in our own body, connecting all the important nodes to a central brain.

It probably took hours to install and look neat. Gosh, I feel like taking a scissors and cutting a few of those lines...

I remember those days when I set up networks in our small office; the hubs were entangled with those cables and the cabinet racks resembled a coilful of jumbles.

Oh well, what's important is that it allows me to update my daily blog...!

Server Surfing

Once in a while, I have to work in our Data Centre, a large room full of hi-speed servers. There's over RM50mil worth of equipment here (that's approx US$15m!) Inspite of the hot price, it can be pretty cold in here...

Today, I had to install and configure IBM/Lotus Team WorkPlace v6.5.1, a web-based collaboration system. I'll need another day to perform the migration of the old version, but so far, things are lookin' good.

Just thot I'd show you how my office room looks like in the morning. Yeah, I'm kinda lucky cos i got two computers, hee hee. The laptop is my main computer, while the pc desktop is for surfing the net... :)

You can see I've got a lot of rubbish crowding my pc. Those are souvenirs collected over the years, with Jiminy Cricket coming straight from Disney World, California when I holidayed there some time ago.

It looks like my day was spent on meetings, meetings, and lots of meetings.

In fact, today's management meeting started 8.30am and finished at 2.30pm non-stop. There was only light refreshments, and we didn't have lunch. The picture shows the senior managers discussing in our main meeting room. Since I was secretary to this meeting, I took down the minutes in my notepad.

I then had another discussion from 3.00pm till 5.00pm. Phew! Ok, time to head home and have a some rest...

I had just ventured into my first ever IRC chat session - in #hash3d (see www.hash.com - the software company that develops the 3D animation tools i use.) Met a few of the guys hanging out in the chat room - friendly bunch. Kinda funny as I was fumbling around trying to figure out how to use the irc features in Opera. Well, I just came out of a long and boring office meeting. We were going through our divisional budget and I was spending most of my time doodling in my notepad.



You can't tell from the photo, but I gobbled up three cakes. Only the tea was left to finish.
